About
Professor Sadanand Verma’s distinguished career helped to shape the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He served UNLV for 55 years, from 1967 to 2022, including a remarkable 22 years as department chair.
Under his leadership, the department established a Masters program and expanded disciplinary areas of excellence, including statistics and computer science.
In 2021, when he was recognized UNLV’s longest-serving faculty member, Prof. Verma said his favorite part of working at UNLV was “seeing students from my classes perform outstandingly to move on to other universities or make a positive impact in our Las Vegas community.”
In his memory, the Verma family has established the Sadanand Verma Mathematics Fellowship to recognize outstanding graduate students completing a Masters or Ph.D. in the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
