About Project

Yvette Wintermute was a dedicated nurse for over 30 years, leaving an indelible mark on healthcare in Clark County. A proud first-generation college graduate, she earned her BSN from UNLV School of Nursing and began her career in the hospital sector, specializing in the nursery and baby units at Sunrise Hospital and later Southern Hills Hospital.

Yvette's commitment to nursing was so profound that even after transitioning to her full-time role as Chief Nurse with the Clark County School District (CCSD), she continued to work per diem in the hospital. Her passion and love for the profession were truly admirable.

Throughout her career, Yvette dedicated herself to advancing nursing and healthcare standards. She lent her expertise to:

-The Nevada State Board of Nursing
-The American Academy of Pediatrics
-The American Heart Association

As a dedicated community nurse, she held influential positions on critical committees, including the Child Death Review Team, the Medicaid Review Committee, the Tracheostomy Committee, and the Emergency Medical Services for Children's Committee. Furthermore, she was instrumental in launching a pioneering initiative to track healthcare data within the CCSD.

The Yvette Wintermute Legacy Scholarship embodies her unwavering dedication to the nursing profession and her deep understanding of the challenges faced by future healthcare leaders. As a first-generation college student, she emphasized the importance of striking a balance between affordability and pursuing lifelong dreams.

Her compassion, kindness, and spirit of servitude touched countless lives.Through this scholarship, we are honored to continue Yvette’s legacy by supporting future generations of UNLV Nursing students as they pursue their passion and carry forward the work she championed, caring for others and making a lasting difference in their communities.

If you feel inspired to honor Yvette’s memory, we warmly invite you to support this scholarship and help her spirit continue to flutter forward through the nurses who will follow in her footsteps.
